Science

Our approach to the science curriculum encourages pupils to have enquiring minds, develop “working scientifically” skills and deepen their knowledge and understanding of scientific concepts across a range of topics.

Through a combination of hands-on, practical activities, and opportunities to research, question and explore, we encourage our children to be curious, to predict, to investigate, analyse and hypothesise.

Our beautiful rural setting provides an outdoor learning environment that includes a nature garden, a pond garden, and a purpose-built zone for “Forest Schools” activities.  Through carefully planned use of these spaces, our pupils are able to explore nature first hand, throughout the changing seasons.

As a Green Flag (Eco) School, learning about the environment and how to look after our planet is a deeply embedded part of our science teaching, as well as our wider curriculum offer.  Fieldwork trips and visiting workshops, such as the “Planetarium” also help to bring our science curriculum to life.

We use the White Rose Science scheme to deliver our science curriculum.  The curriculum is arranged in either single year or two-year rolling cycles, depending on the children's year groups and organisation of our classes.  Careful mapping of the curriculum ensures that all content is covered in each key stage.
