Religious Education
As a community school, we aim to provide a broad and balanced Religious Education (R.E.) curriculum, which benefits all children, irrespective of their backgrounds. Our intention is not to instruct or nurture children in a particular faith but rather to educate them about religion, preparing them for life in a multi-cultural, multi-religious society. From time to time, our R.E. curriculum may involve us visiting a place of worship, for example our local church, the Gurdwara in Leamington Spa or the Mosque in Banbury. Alternatively, we may invite a speaker to visit us in a school assembly, to help us learn about their culture and religion.
RE is taught as a separate subject throughout the school and when possible links are made to other curriculum areas. We may also discuss and learn about particular religious events or festivals throughout the calendar year.
Our R.E. curriculum is delivered using a scheme called "Discovery R.E.". This scheme takes a "big question" approach to teaching, and covers all major world religions. The table below shows how this works. From time to time we may select different questions to explore - there are many units of work to choose from so this is just a representative selection.
