2025 - Sesquicentenary Year!
2025 marks the SESQUICENTENARY (150 year anniversary) of
Enstone Primary School!
Enstone Primary School has a history rooted in the late 19th century, specifically 1875 when the Boy and Girls Board School was established in Neat Enstone. A separate Infants Board School was also located in Church Enstone. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the school, and we have been celebrating in all sorts of ways.
In the photo gallery below, you will see us pictured as we imagine our counterparts of 1875 might have looked, having enjoyed a day of learning about Victorian schooling. We really got into role, chanting our tables, practising our copperplate handwriting and (in the case of some badly behaved children) wearing the dunce’s hat and standing in the corner! In the afternoon, we experienced some of the pastimes our predecessors might have enjoyed including making peg dolls, stitching samplers and creating botanical watercolour paintings.
As well as reflecting back on the history of our school, we spent some time thinking about the future and the legacy we might leave. We all had a hand in placing a tile or two on the beautiful mosaic to the left of our main school entrance, which we hope will be there for many years to come. We also created items for a time capsule, which will be buried in our school garden and hopefully lie undisturbed until 2075. Wouldn’t it be fun if some of us could be there when it is opened in 50 years’ time? How will the world have changed and what will we make of the information we decided to leave for future generations?
We hope you enjoy the photo gallery below, which shows some of the activities we got up to this year, including our amazing summer fete.
