World Book Day

World Book Day

Each year the school celebrates World Book Day with a day devoted to book-related activities, sometimes raising money for charity, for example, Book Aid, which provides books for children in developing countries.

Over the many years we have celebrated World Book Day, we have enjoyed all sorts of different activities. One year we worked on the theme of "share a story", with each class learning a story to perform to their peers and on another occasion we all enjoyed working on picture books with a Global Learning focus.  We have previously spent the day learning about the work of Shakespeare, as part of our celebration of the 400th anniversary of his death.  We have also invited published authors, such as Billy Bob Buttons to visit and inspire the children with workshops and story-telling sessions.  In 2024, we enjoyed some amazing dance workshops delivered by a tutor from "West End in Schools" and in 2025, our focus was poetry and all classes enjoyed poetry-themed workshops before having a go at writing some pieces of their own.

This year, 2026, we celebrated the oral story-telling tradition by creating and sharing our own stories using props, puppets and our imaginations!  We enjoyed recording our story-telling on the iPads, to be shared with other classes in the school.  We always dress for the occasion – pictured below are some of our wacky costumes from World Book Days both recent and historic.
